Common hearing aid problems we fix

  • Hearing aid sounds weak, muffled or dead
  • Whistling or feedback
  • Crackling or cutting out
  • Rechargeable hearing aids not holding a charge
  • Bluetooth not connecting to your phone
  • Domes, tubes or wax filters that need replacing
  • Hearing aids that no longer feel right because your hearing has changed

Quick checks before you book

  1. Change the wax filter or dome. A blocked filter is the most common reason a hearing aid goes quiet.
  2. For battery models, try a fresh battery and check the battery door closes fully.
  3. For rechargeable models, check the charger lights and that the hearing aids are seated properly.
  4. Restart the hearing aid by switching it off and on again.

Still not right? Book an appointment and bring your hearing aids and any paperwork.

Hearing aids bought elsewhere

You do not need to have bought your hearing aids from us. We work with all the leading manufacturers, including Phonak, Oticon, Signia, Starkey, ReSound, Widex and Unitron. If a repair needs to go back to the manufacturer, we explain the cost and timescale first.

Has your hearing changed?

Sometimes the hearing aid is fine but your hearing has changed. We can test your hearing and reprogramme your hearing aids to your new results.

Aftercare for hearing aids fitted by us

If we fitted your hearing aids, aftercare is included for 5 years: fine-tuning, cleaning, servicing and most repairs at the clinic. If something goes wrong, we try to see you the same day.

Questions about repairs

Do you repair hearing aids bought elsewhere?

Yes. We service, reprogramme and repair most makes, including hearing aids bought from other providers and ones out of warranty.

Can you repair NHS hearing aids?

NHS hearing aids belong to the NHS, so repairs are usually done free by your local NHS audiology service. We can still check your ears and hearing.

How long does a repair take?

Many problems, such as blocked filters, domes and tubes, can be fixed during your appointment. If a hearing aid has to go back to the manufacturer, we tell you the likely timescale first.
