Why do hearing aid prices vary so much?
Each manufacturer makes its hearing aids at several technology levels. Higher levels cope better as you move between quiet and noisy places and add features such as rechargeable batteries and phone streaming. The style matters less to the price than the technology level.
When comparing quotes, check what is included. A cheaper price can leave out aftercare, warranty length, real ear measurement or a trial period.
Are NHS hearing aids free?
Yes. NHS hearing aids are free on long-term loan, with free batteries and repairs, usually after a GP referral. Waiting times vary, and the range of styles is usually smaller, mostly behind-the-ear models. Private hearing aids give you a wider choice of styles and technology and quicker appointments. Many people start on the NHS and come to us later for a second opinion.
