What does an audiologist do?

An audiologist is a healthcare professional who assesses hearing and balance and fits and manages hearing aids. In the UK, anyone who tests hearing and supplies hearing aids privately must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • Full diagnostic hearing tests, including tympanometry and speech-in-noise testing
  • Hearing aid selection, fitting and fine-tuning, checked with real ear measurements
  • Tinnitus discussion and hearing aids with sound features
  • Second opinions on hearing aid quotes or NHS results
  • Servicing and repairs, including hearing aids bought elsewhere

Audiologist or ear specialist?

An audiologist is the right first step for gradual hearing loss, tinnitus and hearing aids. If we find something that needs medical treatment, such as sudden hearing loss, a discharging ear or hearing loss in one ear only, we will advise you to see your GP, who can refer you to an ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor.

See the same audiologist each time

Because we are a small independent clinic, you see the same audiologist from your first test through fitting and aftercare. They know your hearing, your history and what matters to you.

Questions about our audiologists

Are your audiologists qualified?

Yes. All of our audiologists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Their registration numbers are listed on this page so you can check them.

Is an audiologist the same as an ENT doctor?

No. An audiologist tests hearing and fits hearing aids. An ENT doctor is a medical specialist who treats ear disease, usually after a GP referral. We will tell you if you need to see your GP.

Can I choose which audiologist I see?

Yes. Just mention it when you book or call 0121 369 0780 and we will do our best to arrange it.
